Learning Objectives:
  1. Be able to describe 2 ways that GBV enhances risk for HIV infection.
  2. Be able to name 2 promising practices for integrating GBV assessment and response into HIV care delivery.
  3. Be able to identify resources available for health care providers and domestic violence advocates to address the intersections of HIV and GBV.

Description:
The intersections between HIV and gender based violence are critical to address when trying to enhance both violence HIV prevention efforts and to improve health outcomes for survivors. This preconference institute will bring together researchers and practitioners working to integrate assessment and response to gender based violence into HIV prevention, treatment and care as well advocates who are strengthening advocates’ capacity to understand and meet the needs of HIV-positive survivors. We will provide a research update, discuss translating policy into practice, highlight promising practices being employed around the country to integrate services and share new resources available for researchers and practitioners to explore opportunities in their own communities. We hope this institute will inspire change in institutional practice and expand the vision for how we can scale up such implementation.
