  1. Understand how to identify elder abuse, with a particular focus on its medical markers.
  2. Learn about the elder abuse shelter model and how similar programs providing emergency haven and community outreach can be integrated into the existing infrastructure of long-term care facilities.
  3. Gain an understanding of how the shelter movement can assist with program components and customization strategies for organizations working to reach similar goals in different environments.
Description:
This workshop will offer the opportunity for conference participants to learn more about the nature, signs, symptoms and consequences of elder abuse, an escalating public health concern nationwide. The workshop will demonstrate how participants can create elder abuse shelters within existing long-term care facilities based upon the innovative and cost effective model pioneered by the Weinberg Center at the Hebrew Home at Riverdale.
