Innovative/Promising Practice Program Report

Learning Objectives:
  1. Gain a greater appreciation of the importance of the primary health care sector in responding to structural and interpersonal violence experienced by vulnerable populations.
  2. Gain new knowledge about an innovative, multi-component intervention for enhancing equity in primary care, with an emphasis on trauma- and violence-informed care (TVIC).
  3. Describe innovative strategies for integrating TVIC into day-to-day interactions with all clients, regardless of their known trauma histories.
Description:
The primary health care (PHC) sector is increasingly relevant as a site for trauma- and violence-informed health interventions, particularly for vulnerable populations. We discuss an innovative intervention to address inequities in the context of PHC services, emphasizing trauma- and violence-informed care as foundational to PHC services that can be implemented by all levels of staff and in a variety of healthcare contexts.
