Scientific Program Report

Learning Objectives:
  1. Identify the prevalence of adolescent and early adolescent entry to sex work in Mexico.
  2. Identify vulnerabilities associated with adolescent and early adolescent entry into sex work in Mexico.
  3. Understand the importance of efforts targeting vulnerable youth in order to prevent sex trafficking in Mexico.
Description:
Data from South Asia, Southeast Asia, and Latin America indicate that adolescents in sex work are significantly more vulnerable to physical and sexual violence, substance use, and HIV/STI infection than adult women. This study aims to explore factors associated with adolescent sex work initiation (entry prior to 18 years of age) and early adolescent sex work initiation (entry prior to 16 years of age) in Tijuana and Ciudad Juarez, Mexico.
