Learning Objectives:
  1. Be able to describe the longitudinal link between alcohol use and psychological TDV.
  2. Be able to describe the longitudinal link between alcohol use and physical TDV.
  3. Be able to identify the importance of TDV prevention programs addressing alcohol use and vice versa.
Description:
Using 3 waves of an ongoing 6-year longitudinal study, 893 adolescents from multiple Texas public high schools reported past month alcohol use and experiences with teen dating violence (TDV). Youth with greater initial level of monthly alcohol use evidenced higher rate of increases in physical and psychological TDV perpetration, indicating that alcohol may play an important role in whether an adolescent experiences TDV. Thus, substance use prevention curricular should be included in TDV prevention program.
