Innovative/Promising Practice Program Report
Learning Objectives:
- Identify one strategy to reimburse domestic violence screening under provisions of the Affordable Care Act.
- Describe training resources available to public health professionals to help them address domestic violence in clinical settings.
The Iowa Department of Public Health successfully advocated coverage for routine domestic violence screening in the Iowa Children’s Medicaid program. The program adopted use of the Abuse Assessment Screen (AAS) in all pediatric and adolescent clinic settings. To assist implementation, IDPH provided training on screening, universal education and supported referral to all Title V clinic providers, using the model promoted through Project Connect, a coordinated public health initiative to prevent and respond to violence against women.
