Innovative/Promising Practice Program Report

Learning Objectives:
  1. Be aware of a universal screening process for identifying patients experiencing domestic violence during a health visit.
  2. Have tools to assist them in setting up a similar screening process in their practice.
Description:
In mid-2013, KPCO launched a Performance Improvement Project with a goal to increase Domestic Violence (DV) screening among OB/GYN patients from 0% to 50% by Feb. 1, 2014, and to provide behavioral health care to members who screened positive. The team used an electronic medical record tool consisting of DV screening questions and measured how often it was used during OB/GYN visits. The project included a screening while rooming alone protocol.
