Description:
Drawing from the promising practices of IHS, Tribal and Urban health facilities, community-based and national domestic violence/sexual assault (DV/SA) programs, this Institute will:
•Describe the dynamics of DV/SA and its impact on adult and child health
•Demonstrate clinical skills in DV/SA assessment (screening), intervention and referral
•Examine safety planning in clinical and advocacy-based settings and associated best practices
•Demonstrate successful examples of DV/SA community awareness and engagement and provide tools for replication
•Provide skills-based training for advocates, including content specific to SA
•Examine innovative prevention efforts, including engaging men and boys.
Speakers will include those working locally in either rural or urban communities as well as those working nationally. This institute is open to all levels and professions; dual tracts (with concurrent breakouts) may be offered based on enrollment. There will also be time for participants to hear from one another, facilitating a network of those working on these issues across Indian Country.
