Innovative/Promising Practice Program Report

Learning Objectives:
  1. Assess the Royal Women’s Hospital’s whole-of-hospital response to gendered violence
  2. Identify common challenges for hospitals, as they develop capacity to recognize and responding to violence against women
  3. Recognize the importance of shared information, resources and expertise to advance health care in hospitals for women affected by violence
Description:
This presentation will describe early results from work to create hospitals in Melbourne, Australia, that provide a safe place for women to talk about violence and its impact on their health. Using a whole-of-hospital approach, the Royal Women’s Hospital (the Women’s) has created multiple interventions that are improving health care for women, educating the community and building capacity in other hospitals. Access to evidence and advice are proving crucial to the success of this work.
