Learning Objectives:
  1. Describe the four components of Kaiser Permanente’s “Systems Model” approach to addressing IPV in the health care setting
  2. Describe how quality improvement measures can be used to drive implementation of a comprehensive health care approach to addressing IPV
Description:
Since 2000, Kaiser Permanente (KP) has implemented a Systems Model approach to improving intimate partner violence (IPV) services throughout 46 facilities in Northern California, which serves 3.2 million members. This approach includes 4 key components: 1) inquiry and referral by front-line clinicians, 2) on-site mental health resources, 3) supportive environment, and 4) linkages to community advocacy resources. KP showed a 6-fold increase in identification of members experiencing IPV and the majority of members identified with IPV also receive mental-health follow-up.
