Learning Objectives:
  1. Glean insight into the diverse notions of good daddy and bad daddy in this Australian primary care sample of children whose mothers have been afraid of their ex-partner.
  2. Hear from children’s voices, their understanding and experience of safety in the context of intimate partner violence toward their mother.
Description:
Findings from a qualitative Australian study reveal new knowledge about children from a primary care population whose mothers identified that they had felt afraid of their ex-partner. The study focused on hearing children’s voices about their experiences of safety in the context of family violence. The findings show that when talking about safety, children appraise their father or step-father as either a good or bad person.
