Learning Objectives:
  1. Understand the life long implications on native children's health and mental health when they are exposed to violence.
  2. Learn how cultural appropriateness is key to effective delivery of services for children exposed to violence.

Description:
The Defending Childhood Initiative includes 8 pilot sites dedicated to reducing children's exposure to violence through collaboration in the areas of mental health, education, domestic violence and law enforcement. Because three of these sites have significant American Indian populations, incorporating cultural teachings and approaches is key for effective service delivery.
