Learning Objectives:
  1. Understand how the school nurse is a valuable school-based resource for delivering healthy relationship messages, screening for ARA and providing appropriate referrals to community partners.
  2. Be able to access and use two safety cards for sexually active and pre-sexually active adolescents.
  3. Receive guidance on building partnerships between school nurses, domestic violence advocates, and family planning providers for sustainable health networking.
Description:
This session will describe the purpose, model and outcomes of the Pennsylvania Project Connect initiative to increase the capacity within school-based health settings to prevent, identify and respond to Adolescent Relationship Abuse (ARA) in the school environment. Domestic violence, family planning and other community organization partnerships will be described as essential to effective and appropriate responses and referrals, as well as the delivery of positive messages that promote healthy relationship knowledge, attitudes, beliefs and behaviors.
