Learning Objectives:
  1. Understand existing knowledge about Veterans and intimate partner violence, including the need for routine screening and trauma informed interventions for Veterans who use and/or experience violence.
  2. Identify and access VA resources for Veterans who use and/or experience intimate partner violence, including social service and evidence-based mental health interventions to enable community partnership and referral.
  3. Describe new national VA Program for DV/IPV.
Description:
This Symposium will provide participants with an overview of the Veterans Health Administration's DV/IPV initiative. Participants in this symposium will learn about Veteran Culture, Veteran health care issues that intersect with DV/IPV (e.g., homelessness, post traumatic stress disorder, and traumatic brain injury), and promising practices to serve all Veterans affected by DV/IPV. Presenters will discuss recommended screening tools and practices for Veterans who experience DV/IPV as well as innovative treatment approaches for Veterans who use DV/IPV.
