Learning Objectives:
  1. Understand the importance of children's agency in the context of domestic violence.
  2. Be familiar with a new approach to primary care intervention for children and mothers who experience domestic violence.
Description:
Primary care is well placed to intervene early when children are living with family violence. This paper reports the findings of a qualitative PhD study that interviewed children and their mothers from a primary care population, all of whom had experienced domestic violence. Based on the findings, the presenter will introduce an approach to primary care intervention for children and their mothers known as the ‘informed trialogue’ that can be used to complement existing primary care guidelines.
