Learning Objectives:
  1. Understand the mental health issues of abused women.
  2. Know about a unique treatment model for assisting women abused by intimate partners.
  3. Know of outcome measures sensitive to providing assistance to abused women.
Description:
Few evaluations have assessed the health outcomes of group treatment for women abused by intimate partners. This presentation describes the “You’re Not Alone”, the demographic characteristics of 379 women who began group, and a comparison of those who completed treatment (N=184) versus those who dropped out (N=153). The pretest/posttest evaluation utilized measures of physical and non-physical partner abuse, self-esteem, depression, clinical stress, and couple relationship dynamics. The analysis found statistically significant improvements on most measures. Practice implications will be presented.
