  1. Understand the complexities regarding the role of culture and health on the experiences of sexual assault survivors from underserved communities
  2. Have increased her/his capacity to understand and support sexual assault survivors from various ethnic and/or underserved communities.

Description:
This interactive institute will focus on the knowledge and skills needed to develop the "cultural capacity" to serve survivors of rape and sexual assault from various underserved and ethnic communities. The workshop will address issues such as racism, immigration, language and health care access, the intersection with domestic violence, confidentiality, advocacy, and other challenges faced by survivors from these communities. The workshop will also discuss the "empowerment model," as well as assess how one's "biases" can influence the experiences of survivors from underserved communities when they are trying to access services.
