Learning Objectives:
  1. have a deeper understanding of the stigma victims go through and how they are perceived by governmental authorities including the police, social workers, and the judicial system, as well as the public.
  2. understand the different variances of "mandated reporting laws" for domestic and elder/dependent adult abuse and have insight when it is both legal and/or ethical to report the abuse themselves.
  3. have greater knowledge of dependent adult abuse and how it differs from both elder and child abuse.
Description:
This presentation focuses on the psychological and sociological factors of "Mandated Reporting", the positives and negatives of such reports, and how there can be improvement in stopping abuse via proper reporting techniques and follow up. Working with the different vignettes that the ABC show "What Would You Do?, the presentation offers an in depth analysis and discussion on WHY...we do what we do. This session promises to be both educational, intriguing, and inspirational.
