Presentation Format:
Scientific Program Report

Learning Objectives:
  1. Identify the limits of research that de-contextualize women's use of physical force by relying on single-party reports
  2. Articulate the significance of the Veteran's frequency and intensity of intimate partner violence, and the wife/partner's use of physical force in the relationship
Description:
Present findings of the Relationship and PTSD Study: Detection of intimate partner violence, as it relates to spouses' use of physical force in relationships with male Veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Both Veterans and their wife/partner described the women's use of physical force in the relationship within a context of resistive violence, which was highly correlated to current physical violence perpetration on the part of the Veteran (rho = .465, p = .000).
