Innovative/Promising Practice Program Report

Learning Objectives:
  1. Identify the elements necessary to develop and sustain an after care clinic for people affected by IPV and sexual assault
  2. Identify strategies and practices to overcome barriers to care
  3. Identify the unique needs of this population and best practices guided by the principles of the affordable care act
Description:
Emergency departments (ED) care for many people injured by IPV and sexual assault. The evidence supports that follow-up care is complex and rarely coordinated. This report will present an innovative practice model in a tertiary care facility that enhances partnerships among health providers, legal systems, social service agencies and domestic violence advocates. This program will present strategies for the development and implementation of the clinic and lessons learned. Formal research proposal is in progress.
