Learning Objectives:
  1. be able to identify different types of abusive adolescent dating behaviors reported by a sample of community-based rural women.
  2. be able to describe correlations between abusive experiences, depression, and self-rating of health among a sample of community-based emerging adult women.
  3. be able to identify three themes in the descriptions of abusive adolescent dating experiences as described by a sample of community-based rural women.
Description:
The experience of adolescent dating abuse remains understudied among rural populations, and the use of multiple-methods is uncommon. In this session, we report findings from a multiple-method study of rural, emerging adult women who described experiences of adolescent dating abuse. Quantitative and qualitative data are included. Demographics, depressive symptoms, self-report of health in young adulthood, and important narrative themes will be discussed. Implications for health care related to adolescent dating abuse will also be considered.
