Learning Objectives:
  1. Develop clinical guidelines for survivors who have experienced such injuries when they are seen in the ED, primary care, and/or domestic violence advocacy settings
  2. Identify symptomatology of traumatic brain injuries among abused women

Description:
Of women experiencing IPA, prior research suggests that 80-94% sustain head or facial injuries, or experience attempted strangulation, all causes of TBI. the symposium will include an overview of the neuronal and physiological mechanisms of TBI. Secondly, TBI symptomatology and related health impairments will also be discussed. Third, TBI related data from the African Caribbean and African American Women’s Health Study will be presented.
