Learning Objectives:
  1. Discuss the patterns of abuse, life course analysis, and protective and risk factors impacting abused pregnant adolescent and adult women’s mental health
  2. Describe the effects of IPV on neonatal health outcomes
  3. Utilize the findings of an evidenced based empowerment home visit protocol, the DOVE intervention, to inform programs aimed at decreasing the severity of IPV for abused pregnant women

Description:
The papers included in the symposium will present findings related to decreased severity of violence for pregnant women participating in the DOVE intervention. Other papers will describe the adverse neonatal outcomes for infants born to abused women, specifically birth weight outcomes. The effects of early childhood violent victimization and subsequent IPV on the mental health of pregnant adolescents and adult women participating in the DOVE study will also be presented.
