Innovative/Promising Practice Program Report
Learning Objectives:
- Describe health screening and promotion strategies and partnerships that can be developed for Safe Houses that empower residents to take charge of their own health.
- Explore potential partnerships in their own communities in providing health screening and promotion services for the IPV shelter population.
The Wellness Initiative program partners the DVCC of Fairfield County, Connecticut and the University of Connecticut School of Nursing in addressing the unmet health needs prevalent in the population impacted by IPV, especially those residing in Safe Houses. Students and faculty provide preventative screening and health promotion activities that target residents’ identified health issues. Strategies that empower residents to take charge of their own health are highlighted, including identifying community resources for follow-up.
