Learning Objectives:
  1. Recognize the association between domestic violence in pregnancy and maternal mental health
  2. Recognize the association between domestic violence in pregnancy and childhood outcomes
Description:
This presentation will describe a cohort study which investigated the impact of domestic violence in pregnancy on maternal psychiatric morbidity and childhood behaviour. We found antenatal domestic violence was associated with both high levels of maternal antenatal and postnatal depressive symptoms and with postnatal violence; both were associated with future behavioural problems in the child at 42 months.
